While orthodontic emergencies are not common, they do occasionally occur. Our emergency orthodontist and team provide emergency care to resolve these problems and help you keep your treatment on track. We encourage you to call SuperSmile Orthodontics at 702-645-5100 as soon as possible if you experience an orthodontic emergency, even if you have a regular appointment scheduled soon. We will be able to provide you with any instructions you may need as well as make an emergency appointment for you.

Below are some common orthodontic emergencies and instructions. Please feel free to reach out to our team if you have any questions or experience any of these problems.

Loose Brackets or Bands

If your brackets, bands or wires become loose, please contact our office immediately as this may be a sign that your brackets need to be refitted. We will schedule an appointment for you as soon as possible to resolve this issue.

If you need to cut a wire in case of an emergency, we recommend using fingernail clippers that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. You may also find that you need to slide a bracket off at night or over the weekend before you are able to come into our office.

Poking Wires Or Wire Irritations

If the wire of your braces is irritating your cheeks and gums, you can move it away from the irritated area using a small cotton swab or eraser. If the wire cannot be moved, we recommend covering it with a small piece of cotton or wax to relieve irritation. If necessary, you can cut the wire with nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. Please contact our office for an appointment if you need to cut the wire or cannot resolve the irritation.

Lost Separators

If you lose a separator, please call our office and make an appointment to determine if it needs to be replaced or not.

Discomfort From Braces or Other Treatment

It is normal to experience some discomfort the first few weeks after your braces are placed and after any routine adjustments. You can alleviate discomfort using over-the-counter pain relievers and applying warm washcloths or heating pads over your jaws If you experience lingering or sharp pain, please call our office.

Dr. Brian Chamberlain and our team are committed to providing you with treatments that are both comfortable and effective. Please call us at any time if you experience these or other orthodontic emergencies in Las Vegas, Nevada.
